GUIDELINES FOR THE ERICKSON SCHOLARSHIP FUND - Application form

Who can apply?

  • High school seniors
  • Individuals currently enrolled in college
  • Individuals entering seminary
  • Church staff are eligible
Applicants must:
  • Be a member of Valley Presbyterian Church, or be actively involved in a church
  • Have demonstrated financial need
  • Have a minimum of a B average in high school, or a B average in the applicant’s chosen major for currently enrolled college students
What types of schools can the scholarship be used for?
  • A Presbyterian seminary
  • A private Christian college
  • Any other public or private college, university or community college
What is the amount of the scholarship?
  • Dollar amount dependent upon Foundation distribution policy and number of complete applications received
What can the money be used for?
  • Tuition
  • Books
  • Room and board on-campus
What is required of scholarship recipients?
  • Recipients must be enrolled in at least twelve credit hours (full-time student) in the academic year during which they receive the scholarship
  • Recipients must submit a letter to the scholarship benefactors prior to the end of the academic year describing their spiritual, personal and academic experiences and growth during the year
Can recipients reapply in successive years?
  • Yes, although the application and review process will be competitive for all applicants each year
What is the schedule?
  • Announcements regarding availability of the scholarship will be made beginning in February
  • Applications must be submitted by April 1. Late applications will not be accepted.
  • Applicants may be called for interviews at the discretion of the committee
  • Recipients will be chosen by May 1, with notification letters to be sent shortly thereafter
  • Awards will be made in the form of checks payable to the appropriate college or university.
What is required for a completed application?
  • Completed application form
  • Statement of faith (150 words or less)
  • Letter of reference from the pastor or youth director of your church
  • A copy of the student’s transcript may be requested at the discretion of the Scholarship Task Force
Who will review the applications and make the award?
  • VPC Scholarship Task Force (comprised of one Youth elder, one Finance & Operations elder, one Foundation trustee and Director of Finance & Administration)
How will the scholarship be publicized?
  • An announcement will be printed in the Valley Vine and posted on the VPC website in February
  • An announcement will be printed in the VPC Sunday worship bulletin beginning with the first Sunday in February
  • Announcements will be made at other appropriate venues such as Sr. High Youth Group

GUIDELINES FOR THE KURZ SCHOLARSHIP FUND - Application form

Who can apply?

  • College/university upperclassmen (juniors or seniors)
  • College/university graduate students
Applicants must:
  • Be an active member of Valley Presbyterian Church for at least three years
  • Have demonstrated financial need
  • Demonstrate scholastic merit/academic standing
  • Be active in church and community service
What types of schools can the scholarship be used for?
  • A public or private liberal arts college or university
  • A public or private graduate school
What is the amount of the scholarship?
  • Dollar amount dependent upon terms of Kurz Scholarship Fund agreement, Foundation distribution policy and number of complete applications received
What is required of scholarship recipients?
  • Recipients must submit a letter to the scholarship benefactors prior to the end of the academic year describing their spiritual, personal and academic experiences and growth during the year
  • Recipients should also be willing to meet informally with their scholarship benefactors at VPC at least once during the academic year

GUIDELINES FOR THE SIMMONS SCHOLARSHIP FUND - Application form

Who can apply?

  • High school seniors
Applicants must:
  • Be an active member of Valley Presbyterian Church
What types of schools can the scholarship be used for?
  • A private Christian college
  • Any other public or private college, university or community college
What is the amount of the scholarship?
  • Two $200 scholarships per year
What can the money be used for?
  • Books
What is required of scholarship recipients?
  • Recipient must be enrolled in at least twelve credit hours (full-time student) in the academic year during which they receive the scholarship.
What is the schedule?
  • Announcements regarding availability of the scholarship will be made beginning in February
